《杨柳暮归图》描绘的是江南新春傍晚的景色。几棵杨柳垂条，掩映着溪桥田野，远处山峦淹没在层层烟霭之中， 显得分外俊秀。随着老牛一声长鸣，把观者的视线引入近景的小桥流水人家。这里新柳摇春，河边茅舍炊烟袅袅， 暮归的牧童正不紧不慢地走在板桥之上。远近、疏密、浓淡、虚实等穿插分布，宛如抒情的江南小曲，给人以淡雅 的感受，具有开阔意境的美感。此图设色清雅，多用烘染，山水树木画法比较精细，特别是为突出意境，更多地吸 收了江南的写实笔法。人物形象的描绘，用笔简练，衣纹清劲，流畅宛折，寥寥几笔就生动传神地表现出人物的情 态，可见他的人物画造诣也很深。
萧晨，生于 1656年，卒年不详，字灵曦，号中素，江都 (今江苏扬州)人。主要活动于康熙年间。据故宫博物院《博古图》扇 页题识中，可知清雍正九年辛亥(1731年)尚在。《图绘宝鉴续纂》卷二记载他“善诗赋，精绘事，山水人物师法唐宋，名重江 淮”。他画的山水笔法工致秀劲，设色雅洁，人物衣纹清劲流畅，颇得神态。画雪为一时名手，王士《渔洋集》中有句云: “故人再寄萧郎画，寒江钓雪推烟蓬”。可见他在文人雅士心中的地位。
It is describing the early spring view at dusk of Jiang Nan area. The painter preferred to add some shading around the objects to make them standout. The landscape and trees are painted in the fine brushwork. The figures are painted with simple yet meticulous brushworks.
Xiao Chen, was born in 1656, but his death date is not known. His style name is Ling Xi and the sobriquet is Zhong Su. He was greatly noted by painting the snow, and also was good at landscape and human figure painting.
