Moment of Reflection - Bubble and Shadow

Moment of Reflection is an immersive experience presented by H Foundation for the Arts at Intersect Palm Springs. Designed as a quiet pause within the fast pace of an art fair, the environment invites visitors to slow down, settle into their senses, and notice their own perception in real time.

At the core of the experience is Bubble and Shadow, an edible immersive installation by Bay Area–based artist Panpan Gao. Inspired by the Diamond Sutra’s image of “a bubble, a shadow,” the work uses sound, dim lighting, and edible bubbles to explore the fleeting nature of sensation and consciousness.

Participants directly engage with edible bubbles made from starch, sugar, salt, and flavor oil (no common allergens), followed by a moment of quiet reflection. At the end, each participant contributes a single word that becomes part of a collective digital “subconscious bubble”, extending personal reflection into a shared experience.
